Telling the Truth

Today on Will Schroter’s BIGGER BLOG, he writes a mock sales pitch from a person that has to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The article is called “What if Every Entrepreneur Had to Tell the Truth?” and it is definitely worth the read.
Having done sales work for small and micro-sized companies, this article strikes a cord with me.
How do you sell to your FIRST customer? How much do you reveal about yourself, your product, and your company?
Obviously, most people won’t outright lie just to get a customer (I hope). I think that there is more to it, though. How comfortable are you with gray? How comfortable would your client be if he knew how gray things are?
OK, lets say you reveal only the positive information about you, your product, and your company. The big question would be, “can you deliver exactly what you say you will deliver?”
If not, your struggles with truth telling won’t be your only problem. If you miss the boat on your first customer, don’t count on any others!
