More on the Tribe

I wouldn’t normally write on the same topic twice, but I have been so enamored with the tribe I wrote about last week that I figured it was worth an update for those who have not joined. So far, the tribe has been a complete success, cementing Seth Godin as the guy who forever changed marketing.

First of all, take note: he has reopened membership today, August 5. So go to Amazon, buy the book and email him the receipt! John Jantsch, a marketing icon by his own right, wrote in his blog regarding the tribe, “Few marketers can create a buzz like Seth Godin - the rest of us are just here to learn from him.”

So What’s it All About?
The tribe is similar to other social media sites. It has a profile pages for each member, blogs, forums, groups, notes, and a job board. Kind of like a cross between Facebook, Blogspot, and Monster. One may think that the site bites off more than it can chew trying to be everything to everybody. On the contrary, it seems to work very well because all the cult- I mean tribe- members share a passion for marketing- especially marketing ideas espoused by Mr. Godin.

What’s In it for Me?
There are a few ways in which I see the tribe benefiting me and other small business owners.

  1. It is another way to connect with people with similar interests, jobs, or geographic location. We all know relationships drive business.
  2. There are so many ideas just floating around the site. One group was started just to create ideas on how to market a new small restaurant. You could get new ideas from looking around, or you could start a group and ask for ideas.
  3. The job board could help you find like-minded consultants, freelancers, and employees- always a difficult task.

I’ve only been on there a few days, and I have already met some new friends. I’m excited to meet more and more small business owners in Maine and around the country. Together we can share ideas, build relationships, and grow our businesses.

Price Update: The book price is now only $11. I pre-ordered it at $14, but amazon guarantees all pre-order customers the lowest price until the book is actually released.
