I Just Joined the Tribe

I use Google Reader to read blogs that interest me. That way, I don’t have to visit each individual site just to see if there have been any interesting new blog entries. As such, I have been able to add more blogs to my daily regimen. One of the blogs I have added to my reader is Seth Godin’s. His blog is usually updated daily and contains real, free, excellent advice.

Yesterday, his blog was a little commercial. He advertised that people could now join his ‘tribe’. He said he only advertised the tribe through his blog, and the only way to get into the tribe was to email your pre-order receipt for his book coming out in October (about creating a tribe). This, he said, was to give exclusivity to his tribe. After August 10, the doors to the tribe will close.

Since I would be buying his book anyway, I joined right away. I am really curious to see how successful his social network will be, and I want to learn how he does it. In addition, I will have all the benefits of networking with other marketers and learning from them. To me, it sounds like a win-win.

Once the tribe is actually off the ground, I will report on how it goes.
